Fireworks Safety Tips: How to Celebrate the New Year Safely

The New Year is a time for celebration, excitement, and creating lasting memories. Fireworks add magic to these moments, but safety must always come first. At Superior Fireworks, we’re committed to ensuring that every celebration is both dazzling and safe. Here’s how you can prioritize safety during your New Year’s celebration.

Adult Supervision: Ensure an experienced adult is always present when fireworks are being handled. Young children should never handle fireworks, even sparklers, which can burn at extreme temperatures.

Outdoor Use Only: Fireworks are designed to be used in open spaces. Avoid using them indoors or near buildings, trees, or flammable materials.

Follow Label Directions: Take the time to read and understand the instructions on each firework before use. This ensures proper handling and the best display results.

Keep Your Body Clear: When igniting fireworks, never lean over or place any part of your body directly above the device. This minimizes the risk of injury from sudden ignition.

One at a Time: Avoid lighting multiple fireworks simultaneously. This prevents accidents and allows better control of the display.

Duds are Dangerous: If a firework fails to ignite, do not attempt to re-light it. Wait at least 20 minutes, then submerge it in water before disposal.

No Throwing or Pointing: Fireworks are not toys. Never aim or throw them at anyone or anything, as this can result in serious injuries.

Be Prepared with Water: Always have a bucket of water or a garden hose ready to extinguish any accidental fires or cool down used fireworks.

No Pocket Fireworks: Fireworks can ignite due to friction, heat, or accidental exposure to sparks. Carry them in a secure container instead.

Avoid Metal and Glass Containers: These materials can shatter upon explosion, creating dangerous projectiles. Use open, stable surfaces for ignition.

Proper Disposal: After the show, allow used fireworks to sit for at least 20 minutes. Submerge them in water for a few minutes, drain, and dispose of them in a covered trash can.

Plus, we’ll add one tip of our own that’s commonly recommended in the fireworks community:

  • ABCAlways Brace Cakes

“Cake” is another term for multi-shot aerial repeaters. There are a lot of ways you can brace these, but the simplest is often just placing a couple of bricks on either side. This is especially helpful for smaller 200-gram repeaters and keeps them from moving around during their performance, which can eliminate any chance of tipping.

Superior Fireworks: Committed to Safety

Safety is a core value at Superior Fireworks. We believe every celebration should be as secure as it is spectacular. By following these guidelines, you can create unforgettable memories while protecting yourself and others.

Let’s ring in the New Year responsibly. Enjoy the brilliance of fireworks while ensuring everyone stays safe. Here’s to a safe and sparkling start to your year!
